1998 Saturn vehicles built after and including VIN WZ206003 equipped with ABS and rear drum brakes (RPO code JM4) and 1999 Saturn vehicles with ABS (RPO code JM4).
Please distribute this bulletin to: Parts Manager and all Technicians
The purpose of this bulletin is to communicate a change in the resistance values of the rear ABS wheel speed sensor.
The rear wheel speed sensor was changed to a multi-pole design to improve ABS wheel speed sensor signal clarity. The new multi-pole sensor can be identified by the new white polymer cover. The old steel sensor cover was gold in color. The change was implemented on ABS vehicles equipped with rear drum brakes (RPO JM4) at VIN WZ206003.
Due to assembly limitations the change was not implemented on ABS vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes (RPO JL9).
The new wheel speed sensor resistance values are as follows:
Temperature - Resistance Table | |||
---|---|---|---|
Temp. (C°) | Temp. (F°) | Minimum | Maximum |
-34° to 4° | -30° to 40° | 800 ohms | 1120 ohms |
5° to 43° | 41° to 110° | 990 ohms | 1210 ohms |
44° to 93° | 111° to 200° | 1505 ohms | 1600 ohms |
The new wheel bearing and sensor assembly can be used to service all 1991-1999 Saturn vehicles with ABS (RPOs JL9 or JM4).
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians,
NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these
technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to
provide information that could assist in the proper service of a
vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment,
tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and
safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the
bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have
that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether
your vehicle may benefit from the information. |
