Removal Procedure

1. Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
2. Remove the door window. Refer to Window Replacement - Front Door .
3. Partially remove the inner sealing strip (belt seal) at the rear of the door.
4. Partially remove the window secondary weatherstrip at the rear of the door.
5. Remove the window guide. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door Window .
6. From the belt opening, using a long screwdriver, pry the rods from the door latch.
7. Disconnect the power lock actuator wiring harness, if equipped.
8. Disconnect the inside handle rod and lock rod from the rod retainer clip on the inside door structure.
9. Remove the screws and remove the door latch.

Installation Procedure

Important

The rod retaining clips used in the door lock levers and door lock pawls are not reusable. Retention characteristics are minimized once a rod is extracted. The clips must be replaced every time a rod is extracted.

1. If installing the old door latch, replace all of the rod retaining clips installed in the door latch levers.

Notice

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the door latch with new screws or apply Loctite 242® , or equivalent, on the old screws.
Tighten

Tighten the door latch-to-door fasteners to 11 N·m (98 lb in).

3. Connect the power lock actuator wiring harness, if equipped.
4. Install the rods to the door latch.
5. Install the lock rod to the retainer clip on the inside door structure.
6. Temporarily install the inside door handle and rods.




7. Adjust the lock actuator rod with the lock lever on the door lock and lock button in the locked position:
• If equipped with an adjustable nut, rotate the nut until it reaches the lock lever with no tension and install to the lock lever.
• If equipped with an adjustable clip, remove the clip from the rod and install to the lock lever.
• Install the rod to the clip with no tension.
8. Check the door lock operation and remove the inside door handle.

Important

Check for proper adjustment. There should be no tension on the pivot or door lock.

9. Connect the outside handle rod and lock cylinder rod to the door latch.
10. Install the door window guide. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement - Front Door Window .
11. Install the door window. Refer to Window Replacement - Front Door .
12. Install the speaker assembly.
13. Install the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Front Door .
