Handle Pivot Assembly Replacement - Rear Door

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the outer door panel. Refer to "Rear Door Outer Panel - Sedan/Wagon" procedures in this section.
2. Disconnect the outside handle rod from the door lock. Compress the pin on the pivot and remove the pivot and rod.

Important

The rod retaining clips used in the door lock levers and door lock cylinder pawls are not re-usable. The clips must be replaced every time a rod is extracted.

3. Unlatch the rod retainer. Remove the rod from the pivot.

Installation Procedure

1. If installing a new pivot assembly, remove and discard the shipping retainer shown in the lower right illustration.
2. Replace the outside handle rod retaining clip at the door lock.
3. Install the outside handle rod on the pivot assembly.
4. Insert the rear pin of the pivot into the door frame. Compress the front pin and insert into the door frame.

Important

Check for proper adjustment. There should be no tension on the pivot or door lock.

5. Adjust the rod to freely enter the retention clip and snap into place.
6. Install the outer door panel. Refer to "Rear Door Outer Panel - Sedan/Wagon" procedures in this section.
