Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution

Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in Cautions and Notices.





1. Position the vehicle on the lift and raise the vehicle.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speed sensor and remove the sensor.

Installation Procedure

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
2. Clean and lubricate the fastener with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off the excess fluid and install.
3. Install the speed sensor.
Tighten

Tighten the vehicle speed sensor to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

4. Connect the electrical connector to the speed sensor. Push in until a click is heard and pull back to confirm the positive engagement.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Check the transaxle fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure .
