Wheel Cylinder Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the brake hose at the wheel cylinder.
2. Disassemble the rear drum brake assembly. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
3. Remove the bleeder valve and cap.
4. Remove the wheel cylinder retaining fasteners and remove the cylinder.

Installation Procedure

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.





1. Install the new wheel cylinder onto the backing plate with the fasteners.
Tighten

Tighten the wheel cylinder-to-backing plate to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

2. Connect the brake hose with NEW washers onto the wheel cylinder.
Tighten

Tighten the brake hose-to-wheel cylinder to 49 N·m (36 lb ft).

3. Install the bleeder valve and cap.
Tighten

Tighten the rear brake bleeder valve to 7.5 N·m (66 lb in).

4. Completely assemble the rear drum brake assembly. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
5. Bleed the brakes. Refer to the appropriate brake bleeding procedure.
