Latch Replacement - Rear Door Sedan/Wagon

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door . The outer panel is removed in the illustration to show the location.

Important

The rod retaining clips used in the door lock levers and mechanisms are not re-usable. Retention characteristics are minimized once a rod is extracted. The clips must be replaced every time a rod is extracted.

2. Disconnect the rods from inside the handle assembly.
3. Disconnect the rods from the door latch.
4. Remove the screws and remove the door latch.

Installation Procedure

1. If installing the old door latch, replace all of the rod retaining clips in the door latch.
2. Install the door lock with the screws.
3. Connect the rods to the door latch and door retainers.

Important

Check for proper adjustment. There should be no tension on the pivot or door lock.

4. Tighten the door latch fasteners.
5. Tighten the top screw first.
6. Tighten the lower inboard screw second.

Notice

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

7. Tighten the lower outboard screw last.
Tighten

Tighten the rear door latch fasteners (Sedan/Wagon) to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

8. Install the rear door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Side Rear Door .
