DTC P0708
Circuit Description

The gear selected is determined by combinations of opens and grounds in circuits 771,
772, 773, and 776 at the transaxle park/neutral position switch. Each combination
indicates a specific selection in the manual shift quadrant, P, R, N, D, 3, or 2.
No data indicates that all 4 circuits are open at the same time.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
DTC P0708 is set when the PCM has detected all bits equal 12 volts. No
switch circuits are pulled to ground for longer than 500 milliseconds per ignition
cycle.
Test Description
Numbered steps below refer to steps on the chart.
- This test verifies the conditions for DTC P0708 still exist.
- A disconnected switch will set a DTC P0708.
- A metal body of the switch needs to be grounded to the transaxle case.
Circuit 451K is a redundant ground connected to the engine ground.
- This test verifies the PCM, connections, and wiring to the switch. If
all circuits are open, DTC P0708 will set. The PDT will display OPEN if all
circuits are open, GRDED if all circuits are grounded, INVALID if an invalid bit pattern
exists, or P, R, N, D, 3, or 2 if that valid bit pattern exists.
- There should be 12 volts at each switch harness terminal from the
PCM.
Repair Verification
Monitor DTC menu Code Status for Pass Since Code Clear and Pass This Ignition
Cycle. When both have passed, repair is verified.
Criteria for pass:
- No active DTC set.
- Two valid selector positions are decoded. You must move the shifter to
obtain a pass.
Diagnostic Aids
This DTC will cause the transaxle to start out in 2nd gear.
