Info - New Bulletin Categories #05-00-89-005 - (Jan 31, 2005)

New Bulletin Categories

1991-2005 Saturn Vehicles

General Manager, Fixed Operations Manager, and Technician

Purpose

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform Saturn retailers of the new categorization of service bulletins. This action is being taken to align service bulletin content with current online Service Information (SI) categories.

Retailers may also notice that the bulletin "banners" have also changed to reflect these new categories.

New Bulletin Categories

Information: Information bulletins contain information for technicians regarding procedures, service related administrative requirements, availability of special tools, and other general information. Information bulletins will typically begin with a "Purpose" statement. This category supersedes Service Information bulletins that were previously available in print only and includes some prior technical bulletins.

Service Manual Update: Service Manual Update bulletins provide updated information for service manuals.

Technical: Technical bulletins address a customer concern. These bulletins will have a Condition, Cause, and Correction statement.

Advanced Service Information: Advanced Service Information (ASI) bulletins are driven by customer concerns that do not yet have a field fix. These bulletins state the condition and cause (if determined) but may not have a permanent correction. When the permanent correction is available, the resulting technical bulletin will be a revision of the original ASI bulletin.

Field Product Reminder: Field Product Reminder bulletins summarize service activities (issues, bulletins, and part restrictions) for each month. These bulletins will still be distributed to U.S. retailers in printed form and on DealerWorld, in addition to being available on SI.

Exchange Program: Exchange Program bulletins describe programs in which certain components (such as engines or transmissions) are not serviced, but rather returned in exchange for an equivalent part, in order to obtain more information for product improvements.

Warranty Administration: Warranty Administration bulletins describe new claim information/labor codes, new information or restrictions on codes, or documentation requirements for certain claim codes.

Service Administrative Message: Service Administrative Messages are not bulletins. Unlike all other bulletin types described in this bulletin, Service Administrative Messages will not have a corporate bulletin number. These messages describe non-technical, administrative issues and are typically directed to U.S. retailer management (General Manager, Fixed Operations Manager, or Parts Manager). This category supersedes Service Engineering bulletins that were previously available in print only.

The new bulletin categories do not affect the standard corporate numbering system, which will still apply to all bulletins described above except for Service Administrative Messages. All of the above bulletins are now being delivered electronically. Paper distribution has been discontinued for all types of bulletins except Field Product Reminder bulletins.

GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer".  They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle.  Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely.  If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.  See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
