Gear Synchronizer Blocker Ring Inspection

  1. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring fiber liner (1) for wear or damage (glazed, burned or missing).
  2. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring teeth (2) for excessive wear.
  3. Inspect the synchronizer blocker ring lugs (3) for excessive wear.
  4. Inspect the synchronizer spring (4) for wear.

  6. Inspect the gear thrust surface (1) for wear or scoring.
  7. Inspect the gear cone surface (2) for wear.
  8. Inspect the clutching teeth (3) for excessive wear, chipping, or cracks.
  9. Inspect the gear teeth (4) for uneven wear scoring, galling or cracks.

    Important

    When installing new blocker rings, soak in Saturn Transaxle Fluid 15 minutes prior to installing/measuring.

  11. Install the synchronizer blocker ring to matching gear and rotate until it stops.
  12. Measure the clearance between blocker ring and gear in four places.
  13. The minimum blocker ring to gear clearance for all synchronizers Specifications

    Blocker ring to gear clearance, minimum: 0.4 mm (0.020 in)
