Delay and/or Harsh into Drive, or Harsh into Reverse or 2nd / 3rd / 4th After Trans Repair - kw bump clunk hesitation upshift shift MP6 MP7 transmission transaxle automatic #PIP3175A - (Dec 21, 2004)

Delay and/or Harsh into Drive, or Harsh into Rev or 2nd/3rd/4th after Trans Repair

.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Delay and harsh engagement into drive and/or harsh engagement into reverse, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gears after repairs in which the clutch spring packs were removed/replaced.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Incorrect clutch spring pack installed into incorrect clutch

Install the correct spring pack into the appropriate clutch housing. First clutch spring pack has a softer spring and is stamped with the number 7. Clutch packs 2, 3 and 4 have a stiffer spring and have no stamping. To verify proper reassembly, remove the 1st clutch housing and inspect for the presence of a number 7 on the face of the spring pack. If the number 7 is not readily visible, the wire diameter of the springs in the spring packs for 2nd , 3rd, and 4th gears is noticeably larger than that for 1st. Replace the clutch return spring(s) with the correct part number(s) for the pack. First clutch spring P/N: 21003592. Second/third/fourth clutch spring P/N: 21003593.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
