1. Inspect all passages to ensure they are clean and open.
2. Press the converter bearing into the housing using SA9114T and install snap ring.
3. Install the torque converter seal using SA9107T and install the snap ring.

Notice

If the converter housing is not supported when the output shaft roller bearing is being pressed in, the housing may collapse.





4. If a new output shaft roller bearing is being installed, install the press fixture SA9129T with auto adapter pad 310084. Tighten the center screw until the auto adapter pad is snug against the housing.




5. Press in the output shaft roller bearing into the housing using SA9114T . The bearing must be flush or below the converter housing surface. Use a straight edge and feeler gage to ensure the bearing is not cocked in the bore. Check the bearing race at 4 points. All points must be within 0.04 mm (0.0016 in) of each other.
6. Install the dowel pins if necessary. Use a bolt to pull the pin into the housing.




7. Place a clean magnet and filter support spring on a new filter and install. Remove the old seal if still in the pump housing, and install a new filter and seal. Refer to Pump Assembly/Measurement procedure in this section before installing pump.

Important

Clean and lubricate the fasteners with Saturn transaxle fluid. Wipe off excess fluid.

8. Install the pump bolts:
• Seven bolts are 6 mm x 22 mm
• Five bolts are 6 mm x 45 mm

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

9. Tighten the bolts as shown in illustration.
Tighten

Tighten the pump-to-converter housing bolts to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

10. Clean and lubricate the fasteners with Saturn transaxle fluid. Wipe off excess fluid.





Important

The stator shaft bolts are not washer head bolts.

11. Install the stator shaft and bolts, if removed.
Tighten

Tighten the stator shaft-to-pump bolts in the sequence below to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).





12. Clean threads and apply Loctite® 242 Threadlocker P/N 21485277 or equivalent to the bolts and install the park brawl assembly, using 3 bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the park pawl assembly-to-converter housing bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

13. Install the park lever actuator rod. The end with two tangs fits into the lever.
14. Install the pump-to-case O-ring seal.
