Receiver Dehydrator Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important

Verifying the purity of the refrigerant with a refrigerant purity identifier before recovery is recommended.

1. Recover the refrigerant using an approved refrigerant recovery system.

Caution

To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

2. Raise the vehicle.




3. Remove the push nut and pull back the receiver-dehydrator splash shield.
4. Remove the lower splash shield.

Caution

Do not remove hoses or lines before system is fully discharged. System may be under pressure and contact with R134a may cause personal injury.

5. Disconnect the receiver-dehydrator hose from the condenser outlet.




6. Disconnect the liquid line from the receiver-dehydrator.




7. Remove the nut from the receiver-dehydrator.
8. Rotate the assembly off of the stud and pull rearward to disengage from the retaining slot.

Installation Procedure

1. Feed the receiver-dehydrator hose up over the vehicle frame and down to the condenser outlet.




2. Install the receiver-dehydrator in the retaining slot and rotate onto the stud.

Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

Important

The installed position is with the tab all the way forward and at the bottom of the slot. Make sure the pipe does not touch the frame rail.

3. Install and tighten the nut.
Tighten

Tighten the receiver-dehydrator mounting nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

Notice

Use only Polyalkylene Glycol Synthetic Refrigerant Oil (PAG) for internal circulation through the R-134a A/C system and only 525 viscosity mineral oil on fitting threads and O-rings. If lubricants other than those specified are used, compressor failure and/or fitting seizure may result.






Important

Make sure the receiver-dehydrator hose is parallel with the condenser after tightening the fitting. This will provide the hose clearance to the body and frame, avoiding potential damage to the hose.

4. Lubricate the O-ring with R-12 Refrigerant mineral oil and connect the receiver-dehydrator hose on the condenser outlet. Tighten the fitting.
Tighten

Tighten the receiver-dehydrator hose-to-condenser outlet to 16.5 N·m (12 lb ft).






Important

Make sure the liquid line is not touching the sheet metal in the body cut out after tightening the fitting.

5. Install and lubricate the new O-ring with R-12 Refrigerant mineral oil and connect the liquid line on the receiver-dehydrator. Tighten the fitting.
Tighten

Tighten the liquid line-to-receiver dehydrator to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

6. Install the lower splash shield.




7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Evacuate, charge, and leak test the A/C system.
9. Rotate the receiver-dehydrator splash shield into place and install the push nut.
