Quill Bearing Seal Protector Tool (J43270) #98-T-17 - (Jan 6, 2003)

1991 - 1998 Saturn equipped with MP2/MP3 manual transaxles

Purpose

A quill bearing seal protector tool (J43270) has been released for servicing manual transaxle assemblies. The quill bearing seal protector is designed to prevent the input shaft splines from cutting the seal inside the quill bearing during input shaft installation.

To use the quill bearing seal protector tool, refer to the procedure in this bulletin.

Important

The following procedure will be included in the "1998 - 1999 Manual Transaxle Service Manual."

Procedure

1. Install quill bearing seal protector tool (1). into the quill bearing in the clutch housing, so that the tool is approximately 13 mm (1/2 in.) above the clutch housing surface.
2. Install input and output shafts. Lift shafts and mesh gears together. Lower the shafts together and rotate back and forth to align with differential ring gear, and start the output shaft in its bearing.
3. Remove quill bearing seal protector tool if it is still attached to the input shaft.
