Creak in the Rear Window Area #97-T-09B - (Jan 10, 2003)

Creak in the Rear Window (Backglass) Area -- Remove the Adjustable Slider and Legs from the Rear Window Lower Frame Supports -- Due to the addition of the model years, this bulletin supersedes 97-T-09A, which should be discarded.

1996-1999 Saturn Sedans and 1997-1999 Saturn Coupes

Condition:

A creaking noise may be heard coming from the rear window area.

Cause:

Loose rear window lower frame supports move against the rear window causing a creak noise.

Correction:

Remove the adjustable slider and legs from the rear window lower frame supports using the procedure in this bulletin.

Procedures:

    Notice

    Do Not remove the base of the rear window lower frame supports since they are sealed with a gasket and removal may cause a waterleak.

    Important

    Remove only one leg at a time from the rear window lower frame supports.

  1. From inside the rear compartment, hook a 90 degree awl or pick in front of one leg of the rear window lower frame support and gently pull rearward until the leg breaks off.
  2. Repeat until the 2 legs on both rear window lower frame supports are removed.

  3. Object Number: 1201838  Size: MF

  4. Insert a small diameter pick between the adjustable slider and the base of the rear window lower frame support to disengage the interlocking feature of the slider.
  5. Remove the slider from the rear window lower frame support.
