SA9113T Transaxle Seal Protector

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the right drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .




3. On vehicles equipped with DOHC (LL0) engine:
1. Loosen, but do not remove the top fastener of the intake manifold-to-intermediate axle shaft support bracket.
2. Remove the lower fastener of the intake manifold-to-intermediate axle shaft support bracket.
3. Swing the intermediate manifold-to-intermediate axle shaft support bracket to provide clearance.
4. Tighten the fastener at the intake manifold to hold the bracket aside.




4. Remove the intermediate axle drive shaft support bracket-to-engine block fasteners.
5. Remove the intermediate drive assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Important

The intermediate axle shaft support bearing seal rides on a machined surface of the inner Tri-pot housing. A new inner Tri-pot joint must be installed whenever a new intermediate axle shaft is installed.

Notice

When inserting drive axle into transaxle, be careful not to contact oil seal with drive axle splines. The spline can damage the oil seal.

Important

The illustration shows the left side drive axle. For the intermediate axle shaft, seal protector usage is the same but for the opposite side of the transaxle.

1. Install the SA9113T .
2. Install the intermediate axle shaft into the transaxle.
3. After the intermediate axle shaft splines have safely passed the transaxle oil seal, remove the seal protector and fully seat the intermediate drive shaft into the transaxle.
4. On vehicles equipped with SOHC (L24) engine, start  all 3 intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-engine block fasteners.




5. On vehicles equipped with DOHC (LL0) engine:
1. Start the 2 lower intermediate shaft support bracket-to-engine block fasteners.
2. Loosen the fastener at the intake manifold and align the intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-intake manifold bracket with the mounting hole. Start the fastener.
3. Secure the intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-intake manifold bracket fastener at the intake manifold.
Tighten
• Tighten the intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-intake manifold bracket at the intake manifold to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
• Tighten the intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-intake manifold bracket at the intermediate shaft bracket to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
6. Tighten all 3 intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-engine block bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the intermediate axle shaft support bracket-to-engine block bolts to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).
