Seat Back Recliner Replacement - Front

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the seat from the car. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket .
2. Remove the recliner handle.
3. On SL2, SC2 and SW2 driver's seat, rotate the riser knob to the full down position and remove the riser knob.




4. Remove the seat adjuster side covers.




5. Remove recliner lever.




6. On the Coupe passenger seat, remove the clip attaching the E-Z entry cable to the inboard recliner, and separate the cable from the recliner.




7. Disengage the seat cushion cover rear J-strip at the bottom of the seat cushion frame.

8. On all the passengers seats and SL, SL1, SW1 and SC1 driver's seats, loosen the seat adjuster bolts to assist in removal of the seatbacks.




9. Remove the recliner bolts and remove the seat back assembly with the recliner mechanism and the cross tube attached to the seat back.




10. Disengage the seat cushion cover J-strip at the bottom of the seat back cover and slide the seat back cover up to expose the recliner bolts.




11. Remove the recliner bolts and separate the recliner assemblies and the cross tube from the seat back assembly.
12. Separate the recliners from the cross tube and remove the recliner covers from the recliners.

Installation Procedure

Important

LHD shown; RHD similar.

1. Install the recliner covers to the recliners.
2. Assemble the recliner assemblies to the cross tube.




3. Install the recliners and the cross tube assembly to the seat back with the attaching bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the attaching bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).





4. Pull the seat back cover down and engage the lower J-strips.
5. Install the seat back assembly to the seat cushion assembly with attaching bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the attaching bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

6. Wrap the seat cushion cover rear flap to cover up the recliner cross tube and engage the seat cushion cover rear J-strip to the seat cushion frame.




7. If loosened in the removal, tighten the seat adjuster bolts.
Tighten

Tighten the seat adjuster bolts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).





8. On Coupe passenger seat, attach the E-Z entry cable to the inboard recliner and install the cable retaining clip.




9. Install the recliner lever.




10. Install the seat adjuster side covers.
11. On SL2, SC2 and SW2 driver's seat, install the seat cushion riser knob.
12. Install the recliner handle.
13. Install the seat into the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket .
